Higher and Standard Level
The course examines business decision-making processes in marketing, production, human resource management and finance and how these decisions have an impact and are affected by internal and external environments. It studies the way individuals and groups interact in an organization and how resources are transformed within an international perspective.

Higher Level students only will study:

Standard Level:

Internal Assessment Details:
- Higher Level students will undertaken a research project, maximum 2000 words.
- Standard level students will undertake a written commentary, maximum 1500 words.

Higher and Standard Level
The study of Economics in an international setting is especially important for examining contemporary problems. Students who take Economics will be provided with the opportunity to better understand why individuals make choices, how governments attempt to provide for their citizens and the dynamics of the current global economy. Economics is an area of study we should all be aware of as its forces shape all of our lives. It is only through studying a situation that one can hope to understand it and attempt to alleviate any problems, such as population growth, development, hunger, poverty, and sound government.
Course Details
Both Higher Level and Standard Level students will study the following topics:
- Microeconomics: markets and market failure
- Macroeconomics: national income accounting, economic growth and development, unemployment, inflation, contemporary theories of economics
- International Economics: international trade, international agreements on trade, issues that arise from trade and the balance of payments
- Development Economics: Sources of growth and development, consequences of growth, barriers to growth and development and different strategies used to approach development

Higher Level:

Standard Level:
- Internal Assessment 20%

Internal Assessment Details:
Both Higher Level and Standard Level students will create a portfolio of three commentaries.

Geography
Levels Available
Higher and Standard Level
Students studying geography must be prepared to be challenged and to question everything they read, see and hear. This subject is unique in that it bridges the gap between the social sciences and the natural sciences, making it an excellent choice for students who favour both the arts and the sciences. During the course, the students will study a number of themes that cover elements of physical, human and environmental geography – there’s something for everyone!
Course Details
Throughout the course, students will gain a vast knowledge of facts and case studies and will have a good understanding of geographical concepts and theories. They will look at patterns and changes taking place at various scales and in different locations around the world. The focus will be on the interaction between people, place and the environment.
Higher Level and Standard Level students will study the following topic:
- Patterns & Change - population in transition, disparities in wealth and development, environmental quality, sustainability and resource consumption.
Higher Level students will study three and Standard Level students will study two of the following optional topics:
- Freshwater – Issues and Conflict
- Oceans and their coastal margins
- Extreme environments
- Hazards and disasters – risk assessment and response
- Leisure, sport and tourism
- The geography of food and health
- Urban environments
Higher Level students only will study:
- Global Interactions: measuring global interactions, changing space – shrinking world, economic interactions and flows, environmental change, sociocultural exchanges, political outcomes and global ineractions at the local level.

Higher Level:
- Internal Assessment: 20%
- External Assessment: 80%
Standard Level:
- Internal Assessment: 25%
- External Assessment: 75%
Internal Assessment Details:
At both Higher and Standard Level, students are expected to complete one 2,500 word internal assessment field work project. The internal assessment will be based on a fieldtrip that all students will be expected to attend. This trip will enable students to collect and analyse their data and start to write up their project as well as gain important case studies to support the core and optional themes.
